Anonymous FTP: (See FTP) Anonymous FTP allows visitors to your site to download files via ftp without a password. TOP

Autoresponders: An autoresponder is an email component that allows a person to request information about your products and/or services. An autoresponder can send information via email or a standard text file to the requester in response to a blank email sent to a specific email address. Autoresponders are easy to set up by clicking on the Mail Manager Icon in your Control Panel. TOP

Archive Manager: The Archive Manager allows you to back up and compress files on your site. For example, if you have a number of files for which you wish to keep a backup, you can select all the files, then create a backup file that contains all of them in compressed format. This option is available by clicking on the Archive Manager Icon in your Control Panel. TOP

CGI - Common Gateway Interface: CGI is a common name for a directory on a web server in which CGI programs are stored. The "bin" part of "cgi-bin" is a shorthand version of "binary", because in the past, most programs were referred to as "binaries". Most programs found in cgi-bin directories are text files - scripts that are executed by binaries located elsewhere on the same machine. Every hosting account at Cybertize includes your own cgi-bin which will allow you to install and run CGI scripts. TOP

Control Panel: Our Control Panel makes managing your web space fun and easy. This extraordinary interface offers you a way to quickly view account-related information and provides easy access to the wide variety of tools and utilities that come with your account. With the click of a mouse, you can administer your web space, e-mail accounts, directories, cgi-bin (program script storage area) and all the special features offered. Cybercash: Cybercash is an online credit card processor. If you register with them, you can then install the local config for your domain on our servers with the Control Panel. TOP

Data Transfer: Data transfer is the amount of information downloaded from a web site. Each time a web page, image, audio, video, and other elements of your website is accessed by a visitor, traffic is generated. For example, if all of the data (pictures, text, buttons) on your homepage totals 15k and a thousand people viewed your homepage you'd have 15MB total data transfer for that month (15k multiplied by 1000). Cybertize's data transfer allowance is such that most of our users stay below their limit. TOP

Disk Storage Space: Disk storage space is used to store everything related to your website such as html files, images, multimedia files, anonymous ftp files, POP mail messages, cgi-scripts and any other files that make up your website. Each of our Hosting Plans has a certain amount of storage space that has been specifically allocated to your account. TOP

Domain Registration: Domain Name Registration is the process of registering your web site address (i.e. www.yourdomain.com) with the InterNIC, the official Internet registry. InterNIC charges an annual fee for domain name registration services and that fee can vary. Cybertize offers discounted domain name registration services to all of our hosting customers. Network Solutions currently charges $35.00 per year. Cybertize can register your domain name for $22.50 per year.

If you don't want to host your domain yet but would like to reserve it, we will be happy to handle that for you as well. TOP

Domain Name Parking: Parking a domain name, means pointing it to an existing website. Parked domains do not have their own IP address or their own control panel and incur no monthly fees. There is a one time set up fee of $10.00 for each one. TOP

Domain Name Pointers (URL Forwarding): URL Forwarding will allow you to set up a redirection so that when someone types in a url, such as "myprices.html", they will be automatically sent to another url, such as "mynewprices.html". You cannot use this feature if you have FrontPage Extensions installed. TOP

E-Mail Forwarding: This feature allows you to set up as many email addresses as you wish and have them forwarded to another email address on the internet.
Example: yourname@yourdomain.com can be sent to you@anydomain.com TOP

File Manager: The File Manager allows you to manipulate files on your web site. You can create, move, upload, and delete files on your site. You can also use the file manager to upload files from your hard drive to the server. TOP

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Access: FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. FTP client software allows you to transfer files between your hard drive and a remote server. For instance, you could put your personal home page up on the Web by transferring files from your hard drive to a Web server, or you can download programs from your favorite shareware sites. We recommend Cute FTP but there are many programs available. TOP

Form Mail: FormMail allows you to add a form to your site which when filled out by your visitors, will automatically transfer the data from the form to your email. This option can be easily accessed via your control panel TOP

Microsoft FrontPage Extensions: All of our hosting plans include the option to install Microsoft FrontPage Extensions, which are necessary if you plan to use Microsoft FrontPage to create or maintain your site. (Does NOT install Microsoft FrontPage.) Simply click on the MS FrontPage link in your control panel and the extensions are installed for you in minutes. Please note that although we provide the extensions, we do NOT provide technical support for Microsoft FrontPage itself. However, you can reach Microsoft FrontPage's FREE direct support at 425-635-7088. TOP

Mail Manager: Cybertize's Control Panel comes with a powerful mail management tool that will allow you to manage all of your email accounts, autoresponders, mailing lists, etc., from your web browser. TOP

Mailing Lists: Create mailing lists and no-maintenance discussion groups (no more giant cc: lists). Our mailing lists and discussion groups are a very simple of building an e-mail list to make general announcements, such as specials, price drops, or a monthly newsletter. You will never again need a long cc: list to keep in touch with clients, customers, friends or family. TOP

Mime Types: The ability to manage mime types gives you full control of which software programs will work with your site. Mime types are managed through the control panel. TOP

MySQL Database: MySQL Pronounced `My Ess Que Ell'' (not MY-SEQUEL) is the most popular and standardized database language in the world. If your hosting plan includes this feature, you can set it up through your Control Panel. For more detailed information on MySQL visit their home page at http://www.mysql.com/. TOP

Password Protected Pages: Using the Protect Directories option, you can limit the amount of access users have to your site. You can specify a username and password for the directory you are protecting. Each protected directory can have multiple users (each with different passwords if you prefer) who have access to it. Additionally, the Protect Directories option can be used to remove a user�s access from a protected directory. This can be accessed by clicking on the Protect Directories Icon in your control panel. TOP

PGP -'Pretty Good Privacy': PGP is a powerful cryptographic product family that enables people to securely exchange messages, and to secure files, disk volumes and network connections with both privacy and strong authentication. TOP

PGP E-mail: PGP is the leading method of sending encrypted e-mail messages over the Internet. This utility is very similar to Form to E-mail, except it uses your PGP key to encrypt the message before sending it to you. You can install your PGP key by clicking on the PGP Mail icon in your control panel. TOP

POP-3 Email Accounts: POP - (Point of Presence, also Post Office Protocol)-

A Point of Presence usually means a city or location where a network can be connected to, often with dial up phone lines.
Post Office Protocol refers to the way e-mail software gets mail from a mail server.

All Cybertize hosting accounts include POP3 Mailboxes which can be accessed using an email program such as Outlook, Netscape or Eudora. Mail options are easy to set up by clicking on the Mail Manager icon in your control panel. TOP

RealAudio/RealVideo: Real Networks' RealAudio system is a client-server based streaming media delivery system for the Internet. We do not have a real audio/video server. However, we do support real audio/video streaming for no extra charge.

When Real Audio/Video first came out, it required an audio/video server to be installed on the web server. This was because Real Audio/Video wanted to charge for each "stream'" or visitor. But soon people started writing competitive audio/video streaming technology that didn't require a special server. So, to compete, Real Audio/Video now does not require a server, and you can even use their free tools to create streaming audio over the Internet. TOP

Redirect URL(also see Domain Name Pointers): Allows you to set up redirection of your site so that when visitors type in one web address (URL) they are sent to another URL you have chosen. TOP

Site Creation Tool: The Site Creation Tool allows you to create your Web site quickly and easily. It is an alternative to using other applications, such as Microsoft FrontPage, Macromedia Dreamweaver or Netscape Composer.

Site Statistics: We use http-analyze, which is a log analyzer for web servers. It analyzes the logfile of a web server and creates a comprehensive summary report from the information found there. Through your Control Panel you can track your web usage statistics such as what domains are accessing your web site, how many "hits" you are getting, how much data is being transferred and more. In addition, we give you direct access to your raw log files so you can analyze your statistics with other more full-featured programs.

--------------------SSH and Telnet Information-------------------

SSH: Secure Shell (SSH) is a program to log into another computer over a network, to execute commands in a remote machine, and to move files from one machine to another. It provides strong authentication and secure communications over unsecure channels. Unlike Telnet, SSH does not pass any information in clear text but rather uses secure encryption.

Telnet: Telnet is a way to remotely login to another system on the Internet. A telnet server must be running on the remote system, and a telnet client application is run on the local system. When you are logged in to a system using telnet, it is as if you were logged in locally and using the operating system command line interface on the telnet server system.

Security issues with Telnet: As the Internet grows it is more frequently the subject of security breaches. The easiest way to hack a web site is to setup a sniff program, usually at an ISP and grab the username and password where a user is logging into. This is very easily done when a client uses telnet because telnet passes all information to the server in clear text. When users are allowed access to a network with telnet there is an open door for hack attempts. Successful hack attempts result in damaged or destroyed sites, stolen information, and FBI investigations.

Why Cybertize allows SSH Telnet ONLY: To ensure the security of our network and your web site, we do not allow Telnet. We do allow Telnet SSH which requires SSH software. Cybertize has one of the most secure networks thanks to the cooperation of all shell account users who are abandoning telnet and accessing their account via Secure Shell (SSH). SSH does not pass any information in clear text but rather uses secure encryption.

SSI: "Server Side Includes" (SSI's) are commands that you give to your webserver by placing them inside your HTML code. SSI is sort of like using your HTML server as a cut and paste editor. When used properly, SSI can help make your pages more responsive and can make maintaining your site an easier task. All of Cybertize's servers are configured to run SSI's. You just need to be sure that you call your files with the .shtml extension. TOP

SSL Secure Server: Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is a technology used to transfer data across the Internet in a safe, encrypted format. SSL protects all communications with your clients, so you can take credit card orders, protect sensitive personal information, and ensure that foreign hackers do not detect your passwords. SSL security makes eavesdropping on your web traffic almost impossible. Cybertize offers SSL access in most of our hosting plans which means that we allow you access to share our security certificate at no extra cost to you. You can purchase your own secure certificate if you wish from Thawte or Verisign. If you would like to purchase your own, we will be more than happy to assist you in doing so. TOP
